MUNGUS- a 4 year old monster living in America, lives under rocks, eats grasshoppers and loves to juggle fish.

MANHOOG- 1 year old, lives in Africa. He lives underwater and is seeing here sporting his favorite underpants with the stars. He eats fish and chips, loves to play hide and seek and is friends with the mermaids.

HEDGEMOG- is 12 years old and lives in underwater caves in the Maldives. He eats puffer fish and sharks and enjoys fighting with dinosaurs.

Maldives sickens me!

The only time I remember being proud to be a Maldivian was after the last presidential election, when majority of the people voted to oust dictator Gayoom. But that sense of pride and gratefulness that we as a people have enough sense to do good and what is best for us and our children was short-lived. Contrary to "Dhivehinnah veethee fakhuruveri vamaa", there is nothing to be proud of. We, as a people have failed to stop the drug problem that has infested us. We as a people have let lose amongst us pedophiles, murders, and child molesters. We as a people have let our society go from bad to worse right in front of our eyes as if we are not responsible for what it has become.

It is not some one else's problem to come and fix.

It is high time that we took action to choose good, do good and be good.

(My prayers are with the little infant who was brutally abused and murdered at the hands of his mother)

I couldn't believe it when I heard that Naseem soa is teaching kids of all ages at his residence. My first thought was "how could any parent take their child to him?". Are we so out of touch with what is right and wrong that we think everything is OK? What does it say about us as a society?

My next thought was why the concerned authorities are allowing this to go forward? I hope that their response would not be that there are no laws in place to keep such offenders in check.

NOOR is organizing a rally to question why convicted child abusers are allowed to work in close contact with children and calling for the inclusion of such issues in the bill on child protection being discussed at the parliament.

Please join the rally and call a to stop to this outrage.

The concept was to make people realize how fortunate they are to have their speech, sight, hearing etc , and to reach out to those who don't have those gifts they take for granted.

(While researching to make the posters I found out that there were no data available on the extent of disabilities in Maldives. It seems all the concerned departments were planning to conduct a study)

But the current Bill being discussed at the Paliament about special preveliges to Maumoon is a slap on the face for those who suffered at the hands of the previous regime and are seeking justice. So after seeing the works of Geg Martin, I had to try my hand at creating a space scene. These are the first attempts and they seemed to have turned out satisfactory- though I am still looking for a way to spice things up. If you are interested, check out the tutorials on Greg Martin's site, and be sure to read the article "capturing heaven"- a 14 page long article that will give you the insights into creating spacescapes. But be warned that he does not reveal any secrets as to how he does it.

CREATING ABSTRACT DIGITAL ART

After spending a full year browsing the wallpaper gallery on wincustomize, I finally decided that I should try to make wallpaper like the ones I saw. I was always drawn to the abstract art and wondered how on earth they do it. I'm sure there is a lot who think like this and want to start creating art like the pros.
The method I use is clearly not the only way, but it has given me good results.

getting the right software:

the importance of having the right software goes without saying. Though most of the abstract works do have a 3D element in it, the main work is done in Photoshop. Photoshop rules!
As far as I'm concerned, any 3D application would do. I started with Blender because it was a free download.
Then came Bryce. Though it is a software for landscape generation, all my earlier work is done in Bryce. All you have to do is get some objects in weird configurations and apply a glass effect to them. There are a couple of tutorials on Shiver7. I have recently acquired Cinema 4D and I wish that I had it sooner. For abstract pieces nothing tops that. Of course there's a lot more to it than that. And if you are into 3D modeling, MAYA is the best. I haven't tried 3DS MAX though.

learning:
If you have a tutor, that is very well. But for most of us, we have to resort to online tutorials. And there are thousands of tutorials you can get on Photoshop. Try them all out. Yes. My Photoshop tutorials folder is 250MB, just to give an idea of how much tutorials I have tried. Though the tutorials will focus only one creating one effect, once you have tried them out, you will know when and where to integrate them into your pieces. And learn abstract brushing in Photoshop. This is a must, as this will enhance your piece a great deal. I learnt too late that there are some great tutorials on deviantart. Try them all till you are comfortable with Photoshop. And get some abstract brushes.
For the 3D part, if you are using cinema 4D, there is not enough tutorials around. I haven't seen any abstract tutorials on MAYA or 3DS MAX.
There will be a lot of times when you will be thinking how a particular effect was achieved. And you may never know.
I am currently trying my hand at creating space scenes. Though there are great tutorials on site like that of Greg Martin, only the basics are covered and how to get to that final eye catching wonderful ooh that’s so nice effect is left out. So you might just have to learn all by your self.

getting reference materials:
There are great abstract pieces on Depthcore. I truly admire the artists there. Though my first inspiration was adni18, the work at depthcore gave a whole new meaning and depth to abstract art. Download all of the art and look carefully at each of them. The level of detail the artist puts in is amazing. Details. This is the key. And be sure put enough of it.
Sometimes I get too impatient to put enough work into my wallpapers and they end up looking, well, average.
Though it will be tempting to copy an effect off, you have to keep in mind that this will greatly hinder your own creativity.

Getting it done:
First you have to get your 3D object. This can be a simple set of spirals, cubes or a complex render. Always save in a higher resolution so that when you re- size it will not pixelate. And don’t forget the alpha channel. Some packages do not offer this and you may have to extract your objects off in photoshop, which will not be easy.
The 3D part will be easy compared to what you will be doing in photoshop.
Try out all the abstract brushing effects on the 3D elements, keeping it as the center of attention. And do all the brushing in different layers.
Add details. This could be in the form of small text, pixel dust or vector shapes. The placing will be important. So try different locations for all. Try flipping the canvas in different angles too.
Once you have the objects where you want, start experimenting with color. I usually add a layer of ‘color balance’ and a layer of ‘brightness and contrast’ on top of every thing so that the effect is constant.
After you have completed your work, get some ones’ feed back. This will always help. Keep your work on the desktop for a few days and see what sort of reaction you have to it. I know of several times when I had to change some small aspect jus to get the right look.
Once you are comfortable with it, you are ready to upload and wait for the comments.

I know this is not a tutorial on how to create abstract art. This was mainly to point out how to get about doing it. Though the whole process seems quite obvious, when I started I had no clue. I was always thinking ‘how did he do it?’. What helped me the most was the photoshop air brushing tutorials on deviant art and the ones on Shiver7 and I wish some one had told me sooner.
