poster design concept for disability

poster design concept for the Association for Disability and Development.
The concept was to make people realize how fortunate they are to have their speech, sight, hearing etc , and to reach out to those who don't have those gifts they take for granted.
(While researching to make the posters I found out that there were no data available on the extent of disabilities in Maldives. It seems all the concerned departments were planning to conduct a study)

{this is a personal project of mine and is not approved or commissioned by the Association for Disability and Development, and may not reflect their viewpoint}

Faisal, these are very good. I especially like the 2nd one (about hearing).

I'd suggest: "You have sight so you can, look out for those who can't." for the 3rd one.

BTW, I discussed with Dr Naadhiya regarding posters for a professional campaign. Hope you could talk to her.

Keep up the good work.

I like the simple and cool design you have used. Great work you are doing, saw your logo design at the ADD meeting too.

About the text and message, I have a suggestion. Different meanings can be taken from the phrasing you have used now. I see it as asking someone else to always look out for people with special needs, that is by speaking for them, looking out for them, etc. If the intention of the poster message is to attract volunteers to work in the field of disability then its fine in a way. But I think its a bit patronising. Its important to see this from the disabled person's point of view. I think its always good to remember that people can speak without words, hear without ears, and see without eyes. People in general just need to adapt the 'normal' ways of communication so that we can learn to understand for example, what a person with a speech impairment is trying to say. Of course its everyone's responsiblity to help others in need, but since its a promotion of ADD, i think it should be more empowering, more from the angle of a person with special needs.

What do you say?

Ifham

Ifham: i'd say that I agree with you completely. That's why when i designed the logo for ADD I refused to depict or symbolize any form of disability in it, but instead focused on portraying ability and hope of people with disabilities. But as this poster is to get people to volunteer and help, i suppose this works. Its like saying "you have arms so can give a hug" which is not patronizing but, caring.
Dr Niyaf: thank you for the feedback as always. I think the one you suggested works better than mine. Will get in touch with Dr Naadhiya.
thanks

not surprising to know that the relevant authorities don't have the statistics of disable people. I watched Hedhunu Hedhunaa couple of months ago about an NGO for deaf people. Two teenagers who are deaf and cannot speak but could write text messages where on the program. I was hoping to get their number and contact them what little support I could offer, but the programme host Nuzair and Shakeeb or the producer of that programme didn't see it was important to let public know that anyone who wish to contribute could do so. Programme ended without any encouragement to give away their contact details.However the founder of Deaf Association quickly gave a mobile number but it was too fast and wasn't repeated as it was the end of the programme.

Anonymous: You can contact Shaheez(active member) or Amaresh(teacher). I didn't see who were in that programme but i guess it would be Ashfaq and Rizwana. Contact 7893609, shaheez.
